Elaine is one part of a series of 4 felted screens. The series was inspired the thought that expression through fashion outfits is a privilege. You can read some of my thoughts that informed this series below.

Our clothes can be a reflection of our mental state, it can be an expression of creativity, it could be a source of comfort. These pieces are inspired by the process of putting on an outfit that makes you feel good, powerful even.

You know how tik tok users have all collectively adapted this user-categorization of content themes, well some of my favorite places on tik toks is haultok and GRWM. There’s something about watching a woman put together an outfit that makes me unable to look away.

You learn so much about a person based on this. You learn what their body insecurities are, are they comfortable showing a lil skin, what colors are they drawn to, why are they choosing certain styles, what are they getting dress to do? I could go on. 

While making these pieces, I dressed my ladies in pieces of clothing that caught my eye, so just about everywhere! For example, the girly in the green pants with the cowboy print top, That outfit was inspired by Yu Ling from the latest season of The Circle on Netflix. I was watching the show with my niece while working on another piece, every episode she and I gushed over Yu Ling’s outfits. This just goes to show that not only can the clothes we choose to wear impact up, but it can inspire others!
